Further to the suggestions above re using find my past and the 1939 register......
I have discovered that if I type in DOB and first names of the mother the system either regards her as having died under her birth name (obviously not correct) or as having migrated via boat (again incorrect).
If type in DOB and first names with Scotland and civil birth sections selected I get zero hits.
First names are Margaret and Anne, DOB 1921 in Scotland
Is this because the system does not allow visualisation of living individuals under 100 - will I have to wait until 2022?
I'm not sure where you are searching. On https://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939register and using the advanced search option, first name Margaret and DOB as provide, I get just under 40 hits. None of which look likely to be right. Perhaps she was still in Scotland then?
Would it be worth checking the 1939 register for her "husband" and looking who else was in the household? Or do you think they met after this date?

Re: Delicate subject ? impossible conundrum
I am pretty sure they met after the war -
The father was only 18 in 1939. he was and apparently at Dunkirk ? unit. Sounds like he was 'a bit of a lad'
Allegedly went AWOL/Deserted; Had at least one wife.. plus fathered the index daughter in 1958.
