John C Cashmore about 1880 not on BCC. K.I.A.

John Cashmore lived with his wife and two children at Gorsty Hill, Blackheath, where he was a carpenter and undertaker. He enlisted in the Worcesters in 1916 and was sent to the 3rd Battalion. They were very active in the opening battles of Third Ypres in August 1917 and did not return to the front line near Bethune until November 1917. The line remained quiet but shelling was spasmodic. Private John Cashmore died of wounds on the 11th January and was possibly a victim of shell-fire. He is buried in Grevillers Cemetery (X D 1) at Bapaume and is commemorated on the Halesowen Memorial.
