Post by Waltzer7 »

Hi,

Regarding: https://www.tribalpages.com/tribe/brows ... ver=646097
it seems that Samuel Homer Foxall has been left out?

According to my Dad's Uncle, Samuel Homer Foxall was born to Hannah Homer prior to her marriage to Benjamin Cartwright Foxall, who was his Dad and he was also registered as Samuel Foxall.

FOXALL, SAMUEL - GRO Reference: 1840 S Quarter in STOURBRIDGE UNION Volume 18 Page 417.

Samuel was buried on 17 Apr 1904 at Christ Church, Quarry Bank, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, England
Age: 63. Abode: Quarry Bank

He is on there but with father unknown.
Do you have the birth certif to prove he is son of Benjamin.

What is on there seems to be an error of a John Foxall b 1828. as son needs amending.

1. I will ask my cousin if she has the birth certificate for Samuel H Foxall or order one myself. Her late father gave me printed handouts of his and my Dad's ancestors, which I have added to my family tree. Her late father and my late father were grandsons of Sarah Jane Raybould (1882-1925) nee Foxall, last daughter of Samuel H Foxall (1840-1904).

2. What is on there seems to be an error of a John Foxall b 1828. as son needs amending: -

This could be John Foxall, son of Joseph and Nancy Foxall, nee Cartwright: -

I will sticky this for Grangers 14 to view and see what she wishes to do.

As the John b 1828 needs amending as is connected incorrectly.

As regards Samuel as I prev. mentioned The Birth Certif needs to be viewed to see if father is down on that.
As Jimmy has found Hannah seems to have Samuel on the 1841 just with her family.
And on his marriage he puts his mother down not a fathers name.
Actual Proof is needed that Samuel is son of Benjamin

Yes, I have the 1841 census. Unfortunately I haven't come across Hannah's birth or baptism so far.

Yes, his father was dead at the time of his marriage: -

1 Jul 1853 • Hill Bank, Lye, Worcestershire, England
Aged 31. Occupation: Furnace Man. CoD: Consumption 2 years. No Medical attendant. The mark X of James Homer of Park Terrace, Cradley, Worcestershire in attendance. When registered: 4th July 1853. Signed by Edward Levi, Registrar.

July 1840 • Cradley, Worcestershire, England
Samuel was registered as Samuel Foxall with a dash indicating that he was born out of wedlock.
FOXALL, SAMUEL - GRO Reference: 1840 S Quarter in STOURBRIDGE UNION Volume 18 Page 417.

Samuel continued to use the surname Foxall after he married Jane Evans. Their first child, Samuel Joseph Henry Foxall was also born out of wedlock prior to his parent's marriage on 25 December 1858.

April 1858 • Dunns Bank, Quarry Bank, Staffordshire, England
FOXHALL, SAMUEL JOSEPH HENRY - GRO Reference: 1858 J Quarter in STOURBRIDGE Volume 06C Page 172

Samuel used the surname: Foxall in the 1861 Census and the surname: H Foxall in the 1881 census.

Firstly sorry for my delay in replying, I have had computer problems!

I have looked into this.
I am not 100% certain but it has been added that
HOMER, SAMUEL -
GRO Reference: 1838 S Quarter in STOURBRIDGE UNION Volume 18 Page 405

Information on the birth of Samuel from Wendy Hill
Samuel was born out of wedlock to Hannah Homer.

If that is correct I can not add Benjamin as father.

I have corrected John Foxall.

If you could please look and say what you think is wrong.

Regarding this Samuel H Foxall born 1860. I think he was Samuel Joseph Henry Foxall born in 1858 to Hannah Foxall, nee Homer, after her husband Benjamin passed away in 1853 and was kind of adopted by Samuel Homer Foxall and his wife Jane, nee Evans as he was listed as living as their "son" on the 1861 census.

Birth was registered on 27 April 1858 by Hannah Foxall, Mother of Hill Hole, Lye by Edward Levi, Registrar.

It seems very strange to name another son, Samuel when the first son, Samuel (1838) is still alive?

I am confused with this birth certificate too?

I am not 100% certain if you can actually post it on here either, as it is Crown copyright.

Birth Certificate. 27th April 1858
1st April 1858.
Hill Hole, Lye. Samuel Joseph Henry, boy, mother, Hannah Foxhall, no fathers name or occupation, x of Hannah Foxhall, Mother, Hill Hole, Lye

Apologies for posting the certificate as I hadn't realised it was a Crown copyright.

According to that now removed certificate, which said, "Birth of Samuel Joseph Henry Foxall was registered on 27 April 1858 by Hannah Foxall, Mother of Hill Hole, Lye by Edward Levi, Registrar."

Also on GRO: FOXHALL, SAMUEL JOSEPH HENRY -
GRO Reference: 1858 J Quarter in STOURBRIDGE Volume 06C Page 172

Regarding this Henry Foxall born 1858 on https://www.tribalpages.com/tribe/brows ... ver=650401. I think he was actually Samuel Joseph Henry Foxall born 1st April 1858 to Hannah Foxall, nee Homer and after her death on 25 Apr 1859 at Hill Hole, Lye, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England, was taken on by Samuel Homer Foxall and his wife Jane, nee Evans. Source: Death Certificate: Hannah Foxall Widow of Benjamin Foxall, a Forgeman. Cause of death: "Phthisis" pulmonary tuberculosis. Hannah was 37 years old. The mark of Elizabeth Foxhall in attendance, Hill Hole, Lye.

Can you please add: -

Benjamin Cartwright Foxall died, aged 31, on 1st July 1853 at Hill Bank, Lye and was buried on 6 July 1853 at St Peter's, Cradley. Source: Aged 31. Occupation: Furnace Man. CoD: Consumption 2 years. James Homer was the father in law of Benjamin and father of Hannah.
