I've been adding as Marchant according to their headstone inscriptions/census details and GRO records

Should I go with the headstone Inscription of MARCHANT or with MERCHANT?

It looks like some of family switched to Marchant after 1901 Census

1939 Register Kalmundi Springhill Lane Wolverhampton Staffs.
Herbert Marchant born 6/6/1885 Railway Clerk
Evelina Marchant born 11/4/1886

Marchant on 1921 Census as well

My Brookes family often changed to Brooks and Brookes and back and forth.
