Edward Smith and Caroline Manger

Post by Frodo »

Following the discussion about the parentage of Caroline Manger I sent for PDFs of the certificates. For Caroline Manger her father is registered as David Manger and her mother as Mary Ann Manger formerly Peploe. No mention of her married name.
Edward Smith died on 26th April 1871, he was accidentally killed by an explosion of gunpowder in coal put. Information came from Francis Willows Topham, Deputy Coroner for Staffordshire. There was an inquest on 29th April 1871. This seems to make sense, he is listed as a coal miner in the 1871 Census and as it was taken on 2nd April he would have been alive then.

Sorry I have not been able to upload the certificates, they appear to be too large.

The information on Caroline's certificate is:
Born 21st September 1874, 201 Bourne Brook, Old Hill, Rowley Regis
Name: Caroline, Sex: Girl
Name and surname of Father: David Manger
Name and Maiden Surname of Mother: Mary Ann Manger formerly Peploe
Rank or Profession of Father: Gas Socket Maker
Signature, Description and Residence of Mother: X The Mark of Mary Ann Manger Mother 201 Bourne Brook Old Hill Rowley Regis
When Registered: 21st October 1874
William Whitehouse Registrar
I do not recognise the address , David lived on Lawrence Lane both as a child then a few doors away after he married. At some point between 1871 and 1881 he moved to Tory Street, Old Hill but I can't find that and am not sure I have correctly found Bourne Brook in the old A1 West Midlands Street Map book I have. The address also doesn't seem to be connected to the Peplow family and she lived on Halesowen Road when she was with Edward in 1871. Are there any maps or any information that would help me locate the addresses?
