Hi I have just been on your family tree searching for Samuel Garratt, son of Shelah Garratt. A posting by Di lists his birth date as 9th Aug 1843. I can't find this on Free BDM or West Mids BDM. I can only find a Samuel as being born in July/August/September 1842. I am about to send for his birth certificate and would like to be sure I was getting the right one.. The 1842 one is held by Sandwell register office which would tie in with him being born in Old Hill (1881 census) and Rowley Regis (1871 census). But not Brierley Hill (1861 census). Can someone clarify please?????? I am imterested in joining the black coutry tree ( I live in Cradley Heath), but as I am new to these forums I am having a bit of trouble finding my way about. I'm sure I'll get there in the end, so if I've posted this in the wrong place, please forgive..... :?

Hi cid from Cradley Heath, sorry I cannot help on the birth of Samuel Garratt, but yes you have posted in the right place, and welcome. Di is on holiday, but NL will be along shortly to have a look at your query, from Linell.

Hi Cid

Just to explain I run the Black country Connections tree it is a separate owned website from this forum
but we work very well together and the forum helps us all run with info and bounce ideas off each other.
So if you are interested in joining BCC pm me and I will take you through how it works.

Now I have to stress that you should always verify the info yourself so that is good if you are getting the birth info.
Di who posted that is travelling around Australia she lives over there but I think the info is from IGI here...

SAMUEL GARRETT
Birth: 09 AUG 1843

Christening: 25 MAR 1844 Saint Thomas, Dudley, Worcester,
Parents:
Father: SHELAH GARRETT Family
Mother: HANNAH
Extracted

now there are of course mistakes in transcriptions so perhaps that 1843 should be 1842 on IGI or maybe the date of regis is incorrect in indexes.

1842
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference
GARRATT Samuel Rowley Regis Sandwell Register Office RR/5/324

I suggest you contact Sandwell registry office and say you want Samule Garratts birth certif born about 1842 and ask them to do a 2 year sweep either side of that date or ask firstly do they do that ( I think they do) then give them a date of birth to work on say you ONLY want it if the father is Shelah that way you should be ok
