I have been looking at Phebe BATTY (b.1786 ), as noted in my recent post, and as a result saw Jan’s comments regarding Rosannah and the tentative connection. I had already made a connection, based on the 1841 Census:
Census 1841: HO107/997/4/6/3 - Waterfall Lane, Rowley Regis
John Parkes 40 Nailor
Phebe Do. 50
Elizabeth Do. 19
Mariah Do. 15
Saml Do. 15
Eli Do. 14
James Bialey 7 [A]
Phebe Do. 5 [B]
Mary Do. 3 months [C]
All born in county
It was difficult to fit the younger children (labelled [A], [B] and [C]) into a family tree, but it seemed reasonable that they could have been grandchildren of Phebe. In particular, they might be with Phebe because they were from families that were “broken” – that is where the child was illegitimate or a parent had died.
The best fits were:
[A] - James Bialey appears to be the James Batty who is the son of Rosannah/Hannah Batty who married John Westwood in 1835; James subsequently appears on the 1851 Census with John and Hannah as “Son of Wife”.
[B] - Phebe is the Phebe (B.1834) who marries William Parry, and so is the daughter of William Batty, the possible son of Phebe (b.1785), and his first wife. William Batty remarries in 1836 after his first wife dies.
[C] - Mary (Ann) seems to be the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Batty (b.1822); Elizabeth marries Thomas Westwood in 1844. Mary marries William Belcher. The GRO Index shows the birth of Mary Ann Baitey (no maiden name for mother) - 1841 M Quarter in DUDLEY UNION Volume 18 Page 296.
Does this help to support the connection for Rosannah Batty?
For completeness, the 1851 Census also shows children [B] and [C]:
Census 1851: HO107/2028/123/26/sch 94 – Waterfall Lane, Rowley Regis
John Parkes Head U 49 Nailer
Phebe Battey Lodger U 65 Nailer
Eli Do. Son Lodger U 20 Miner
Phebe Do. Lodger U 17 Labourer [B]
Mary Ann Do. Lodger – 10 Labourer [C]

Thank you, mallosa. I must have seen this but I think that I was getting a bit confused about the Battys - sorry for raising a non point! I will go back to basics as the real missing link is Phebe's elusive extra son, William.

No need to be sorry, I just thought it might help to put the link on? I didn't have time to delve into anything further.

So is this query answered?
if william is a query put a new post on.
I had a look yesterday and see we don't have him on Bcc at all just a mention
of him that I must have put on ages ago.

Re: Rosannah BATTY (b.1811) on BCC
This should be closed, as I realise that there is no issue about Rosannah and her son James. I will start another query regarding Phebe Batty (b.1786) and a possible grand-daughter Phebe (b.1834).
