Parents of Albert Edward LONGLAND

I will appreciate some assistance please.

Living in SA and doing research on the LONGLAND name. Every now and again have to "return to roots" in England. Not having to do it that often, I am not subscribed user to the paid sites in UK - the exchange rate will kill me

I know Wilfred Albert LONGLAND and his wife Ivy Lilian (nee Gear) emigrated from UK during 1948 to South Africa. No issue there. Now Wilfred Albert was the only child of Albert Edward LONGLAND and Maud M Longland (nee Parker). They got married during June 1915 (Southampton) in the same year in which their only child Wilfred was born.

I would like to know who were the parents of Albert Edward LONGLAND? I can then hopefully determine whether they fit into my existing tree or not.
My thoughts are that assistance with a marriage certificate of Albert Edward LONGLAND and Maud M Parker (married 1915 in Southampton, Hampshire) can help in determining who Albert's parents were. This might be the best conclusive evidence.

Not knowing where Albert Edward was born, it is also rather difficult to make conclusive decisions on census records.

As I do not know anything more of Albert Edward it is rather difficult to determine via any other route who his parents were. I have had a look at freebmd, freereg and GRO and found a few "options" as to when Albert Edward might have been born and from those records a few options ito parents. But I need a way to zoom in onto the correct Albert Edward and I think their marriage certificate (1915) might just give the info I am looking for.

Yes, I have contacted a grandchild of Wilfred here in SA with promises of assistance, just to be never heard of again. Even after contacting him for a second time (:

Just to show that I have done some work, my guess or options are that his parents were one of the following:
1. Alfred and Elizabeth Ann (nee Mepham)
2. William and Elizabeth (nee Miller)
3. Alfred Egbert and Annie Eliza (nee Jephson)

This looks like William in 1881 census. Says he's married, when in fact he didn't get married until 1882, but in the right area when he married Elizabeth Miller.

Many, many thanks for the info. I really appreciate it greatly.

I will go and "chew" on this info and mix and match with my tree. My quick initial feeling going on names, is that he is at least not linked to a brother or sister of John Spencer Longland who emigrated from UK to South Africa during 1846. But I will have to see in terns of cousins etc.

Over the years I have also built on the "rest of the tree" - in other words those Longland folk in England. This tree is not fully populated and it is there where I will dig in and see where this info fits.

Some older Longland folk in SA had an attitude in the past, that if you were a Longland, then you were a descendant of John Spencer (remember in South Africa there are not that many Longland people around). I believe it to be wrong and therefore my search for the ancestors of Wilfred and his father Albert Edward.

Reasons:
1. Went further and tried to find the parents of William and then his parents and then his grandparents etc. Going on freereg I have traced back a few generations back to 1705 and none of these people are in my tree - even though I acknowledge my England part of the tree is not fully populated. But going on the info I think I can safely say the LONGLAND folk mentioned in my initial message, descend from the LONGLANDs in Warboys, Huntingdonshire and are not related to the LONGLANDs from where we descend (Yardley Hastings). So I have proven that there are indeed LONGLAND people in South Africa from completely different forefathers.

2. Subsequently - even though pretty much expected - it again shows how incomplete my tree is wrt the LONGLAND people in England. As already said, there are many, many more LONGLAND people in England than in SA, so it is to be expected.

So the second reason is enough to allow ME to have a few or plenty sips of Pinotage.
