Not sure what to make of this. I found these results on the Familysearch site. Not my family but the details are intriguing.

I'm so glad I never had to delve into Welsh records. And add Latin into the mix...!!

I think you have a load of baptisms for boys called William Hugh (a popular name combo?). So the first one will be William Hugh, son of Hugh Jones and Jane.

There is an Irish explanation of names here http://www.from-ireland.net/irish-names ... n-english/ and it explains changes to the end of the name down towards the bottom of the article.

You’ve probably hit the nail on the head Gardener. I never thought of a Latin explanation being the church is/ was in Wales. The only church in St George though was non conformist so not sure why Latin was used. Still, as you say, it’s bad enough tackling the Welsh names although that’s mainly the places that my family lived rather than their forenames & surnames.
