I have been adding things to BCC not completed yet...
Would you like your forum name adding to it so if there is another person looking for your family it would connect you back here?
There could be some bastardy bonds?
It is all just guessing really...I would have thought if Thomas Edwards was her father she may have named him?
Jo :)

Hi Jo,

Yes, I'm happy for you to link my username on BCC.

What are bastardy bonds? Never encountered those before.

It seems odd that Ann married Thomas Edwards less than 6 months after Mary was born don't you think? But at the same time, like you say, you would expect his name to be on the birth and marriage certificates. Is there anything else I can do to find out?
If you don't know history, then you don't know anything. You are a leaf that doesn't know it is part of a tree.

I will add your username and put a link on here once I have completed.
It was like maintenance for the child. This explains it better than I could.

Name: Mary Philpots
Born: 25th October 1860 in Oldbury
Father's Name and Profession: Blank
Mother's Name: Ann Philpots

It appears that this is the correct record for Mary as the day and month of birth match what was recorded in the 1939 register. She was probably unsure of her year of birth and got it wrong. This means that all of the census records and marriages you have found for me are correct too!

I am assuming that Mary was born illegitimate. Is there anyone who might know of a way of finding out who her father was? Both her birth and marriage certificates do not specify who her father was. Her mother Ann married Thomas Edwards in 1861. Is it likely he was the father? If so, surely Mary would have known and given his name on her wedding day.

So may questions!

Thanks as always

if your a direct descendant you could do a DNA test that might link to her father side outside chance ?
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.
