confused

In 1878 CHARLOTTE STUART was born in Madeley, Shropshire, she married HENRY BODEN in 1885 the children born, surnames are PUGH and BODEN. PUGH'S born 1890, 1893, 1896, then BODEN'S born 1897, then more PUGH'S 1902, 1905 then more BODEN'S again. why would there surnames be different when HENRY BODEN is the father ?

If Charlotte was born in 1878 she would have only been 7 years old when she married Henry Boden.
