I have never seen that before! I wonder if it was because they were young? Did they ever marry?

I am guessing as he was under 21 then as a parent she could object. I have found nothing else so far but will keep looking

I'm not sure she could object if her husband was still alive and not even then if there was a guardian appointed. That is a marriage certificate which states that they were married.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

It looks like them in 1871 in Canal Street, Oldbury.
I wondered about if it had been signed but there is a "squiggle" over miner of Eliza Jane's fathers occupation.
