it is hard to read Eleanors date of birth as it has writing over the top, looks like 12/12/77

I think this is her date of birth fits with death certif and marriage age.
If that is the case then that bapt in 1876 isnt her...so we could discount that...the one with mother Jane.

is there one regis in 1878 Jan qtr that looks likely?
or any birth for an Eleanor(or similar spelling) in the area she is born?

Ellen Jones was 1891. I thought she might be another child of Mary and died. I'd already ordered it and should come in a few days. I will order all the others too.

Bermondsey comes under Southwark

The only children on the 1901 are Alice, Lily, Violet and Alfred.

One more question. I've noticed from Frederick's army pension record that he transferred before the expiration of his period of service with permission to reside in India. Is there any way I can trace him there? I don't have access to worldwide records.

If it were me I would contact Southwark registry office ask them to do a search on someone born
12-12-1876
maybe with the name Eleanor or Ellen
just see if they can search via a dob first...you may have to pay but it would be worth it and I think they
are usually very helpful on narrowing down via a more in depth search.
leave off the name Jones to start with just see if they can use the dob
phone them maybe ...get to speak to someone helpful.

I've received the downloaded certificates. Good news and bad news!

Henry Thomas Jones, St Olaves, Southwark
18.3.1881. Father - Henry Jones, Carman. Mother - Mary Jones formerly Lennard!!
Address - 20 Perseverance Street which is the address on the census.
Mother registered the birth.

I also have Harry Jones, St Olaves date 21.10.75. Father Henry, carman and mother Mary formerly Sullivan. Address on this one is difficult to make out but ? Bermondsey ? (possibly terrace), Neckinger Road, Bermondsey. He doesn't appear on any census records.

The one for Ellen Jones in 1891 is mother Ellen Jones formerly Sullivan, probably Mary's sister.

Also, I've looked a bit closer at Harry's Certificate and I think it may say Henry and not Harry. The writing is not very clear.

Update: I found the birth entry on Ancestry and it is Henry. Also a death reg for the same year for Henry James on GRO at St Olave.

So Mary Sullivan has a child in 1875 who dies

then Henry Sullivan and a Mary Lennard have Henry Thomas in 1881
so is Mary Lennard mary Sullivan?

Sorry. I wasn't clear. Our Henry Jones, carman, is the father of Henry Thomas born 1881 and the mother, Mary Jones maiden name Lennard. The address on the birth cert is the same as Henry Jones and Mary Sullivan on the 1881 census, 20 Perseverance Street. Surely it has to be an error.
