Writing a Family History Blog

Post by chiddicks »

My name is Paul Chiddicks and I am 53 years old and have been researching my tree, on and off, for the last fifteen years. I live in Cheshire with my wife and two grown up children and have been living in leafy Cheshire for around 20 years. Before this, I spent all my earlier years living, working and growing up in Thurrock, in Essex.

I have decided to start writing a family history blog to record my own family tree, to promote interest in our hobby, and to hopefully find people with similar interests to my own. I have shared the links below. Any comments and feed back are most welcome, both positive and negative. Please feel free to comment on the blog pages as well.

I have also started writing a blog for Family History Magazine, see link below

I think it's always interesting to see how people present their research. Some prefer a purely factual presentation which is useful for others who might be researching the same families, others try to present a more personal view with the idea of giving a more entertaining account. Others, in my opinion like yours, combine a bit of both. I think it's nicely presented although the presence of info about wordpress widgets is distracting and when one follows the links to full articles the large header is intrusive without being instructive, I would tend to change the "Chiddicks Family Tree" line to the title of the article on each page.
Another thing, and that might just be my computer or provider although I don't usually have problems elsewhere, I found that not all of the page loaded first time but that it had to be refreshed a couple of times to get the full story.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

Thankyou very much for the feedback. Although I have been researching my tree for some time now, my computer skills are still very much in their infancy and branching out and hosting a blog page is a totally new experience for me, therefore your feedback is really important for me to make this work and reach people.

New blog added with a slightly different layout, incorporating pictures within the Text and story, which I think looks better.
