also this death in 1871 is an aged 70 one so that would be dob abt 1801..

I found a Will for a John Burley 1661 (WRO 14th June)

A true and perfect Inventory of all singular goods chattels and debts of John Burley late of Cradley in the Parish of Halesowen in the County of Worcestershire. Deceased taken praysed the fifth day of May 1661.

In the Hall House one table board one forme one plaine stool and one spinning wheele
One small brasse pot two small kettells two pewter dishes one payle one andiron (hand iron?) one gayle one fire shovel one paire of tongs
One bedstead one bed and bedding woollens and linnens there unto belonging
One cupboard one chest two coffers and one breadskeele
One small bagge one candlestick and one smoothing iron
One pair of bellowes and one frying pan

I can't find what a gayle is, presumably something else to do with the fireplace. Also I can't find breadskeele but googling it gives a will, also from Halesowen, so maybe it's a dialect word.

NL the Richard Burley 1800-71 is the son of Richard and Elizabeth Brecknell. Another son Benjamin Brecknell Burleys headstone is in your gallery by peterd.

I have come across Gayle before, but can't remember what it was!
I wonder if breadskeele is something like bread scale????

Some of these old terms are puzzling until you know what they are!

The BURLEY family were indeed resident in Cradley from the 18th century and very possibly before. What I don't have and is particularly frustrating, is a direct link between Richard BURLEY d. 1747, m. Elizabeth JACKSON 1703, and any previous BURLEYs. If anyone has ideas I'd appreciate the info.

The Burley's were in Cradley before the 18th Century, see my Post regarding the Will of John Burley 1661. Cradley had no Parish Church before 1805 so any Marriages would have been in Halesowen Rowley Regis Clent Oldswinford even Birmingham. You need to search all those Parish Records Rob for Richard and Elizabeth Jackson. Not all Parish Records have survived, some have been lost or damaged over the Years. St Giles Rowley Regis was burnt down 2 or 3 times.

Thanks for your input to my brick wall. I noted your earlier post re the will of 1661. I have Halesowen PRs going back to 1680 and also those of St Giles Rowley Regis (and appreciate some of those are missing or damaged). I've just got Oldswinford and will check there plus the other Parishes mentioned.

I'll keep on looking, meantime your help is appreciated.
