Foster family shipped first Locomotive Engine to USA i.e. The Stourbridge Lion made by Foster Rastrick Company of Stourbridgeand it was first to run on Railway Lines in USA . It was in competition with Robert Stephensons Engine to supply to USA and won
It proved to be too heavy for tracks but kick started rail travel in USA and eventually became a museum piece.
Company was dissolved in 1831 and aborbed into James Bradley & Company which involved James Foster and his nephew William Orme Foster and ran until 1982
Building was in Lowndes Road Stourbridge and is today occupied by Lion Medical Centre and adjacent roads are named Foster Road and Bradley Road
Sister engine of Stourbridge Lion was Agenoria which was built to run on tracks from Shut End

Very interesting Mumbles! I couldn't find any of the other foster family members in 1911 and thought they might have emigrated to America?

Julia Mary Foster married Hon. Hugh Tyrwhitt Shifnal 1882 ( he must have been known as U Twit)
and when he died 26/10/1907 she married again to William Ward Bennitt in Kensington 18/11/1908

I could not resist it
but he was a Captain in Royal Navy on HMS Reknown in 1901 and then Naval Secretary and died at sea
Their son Gerald Hugh Tyrwhitt-Wilson became a famous composer
