Thanks for that, Jimmy. Is that the same for the Census? Just wondering how would we be able to trace our ancestors prior to 1837, if we didn't know where to look?

Some places had earlier census's but they were very basic.

My Auntie is certain that: -

William Mapp (1773, Mamble - April 1848, Cleobury Mortimer)
married 1June 1801, Avenbury, Herefordshire to
Sarah Arding (abt 1776 - 13 December 1855) There is another source that says January 1855, Cleobury Mortimer)

are the parents of William Mapp (Christened 6 June 1804 - 1890) who married Susannah, nee Dukes (1807, Rock - October 1878, Cleobury Mortimer)

Other children: -

John Mapp (1802 - 1874)
Ann Mapp (1806 - 1869)
Mary Mapp (1809 - ?)
Elizabeth Mapp (1812 - 1900)
Sara Mapp (1815 - ?)
Thomas Mapp (1819 - 1881)
Louisa Mapp (1820 - 1900)

There is a possibility that

George Mapp (abt 1740 - ?)
Married
Elizabeth Edwin (1743 - ?)

were the parents of William Mapp (1773 - 1848)?

Thank you for the link and I've had a look, not really sure where to go on there?

Auntie has been over to Mamble some years ago, researching into the family tree, visited the church and saw the grave stones, etc.

Ah gottcha! That will come in handy for some members of my family tree. But then they don't do birth, marriage & death certificates in the 1700s do they?

Early records that survived, a lot were lost or destroyed, are at the Archives, or some records you can hire films at local Family Search Center
