Post by mumbles »

The 1881 Census is I believe wrong as it does not tie up with other records
1881. No 3 Elbow St, Rowley Regis.
Joseph Adams 43. Shoe maker.
Mary Adams 40.
Willm. Adams 22. Mar.
Elizabeth Adams 20. Mar. sons wife. Shoemakers Wife ( crossed out)
Joseph Adams 12.
Priscilla Adams 9.
James Adams 4.
Thomas Adams
Mary Adams 20.
Mary Walker 9.

Should be
1881. No 3 Elbow St, Rowley Regis.
Joseph Adams 43. Shoe maker.
Mary Adams 40.
Willm. Adams 22. Mar. Shoe Maker
Mary Adams dau in law 20. Mar. sons wife. Nail Forger
Joseph Adams 12. Scholar
Priscilla Adams dau 9 Scholar
James Adams son 4 Scholar
Thomas Adams son 10mths.
Elizabeth Adams dau 20.
Mary Walker boarder 9. Scholar
All born Rowley Regis Staffs.

This confirms Priscilla Saint link

1881 Census 234 Halesowen Road Rowley Regis Dudley Staffs.
Nehomi Saint Head 63 (wid) No Occupation born Tipton Staffs.
William Saint grd.son 18 Rivet Maker born Blackheath Staffs.
Pressilla Johnsonson lodger 28 (m) Nailer born Oldbury Worcs.
George Johnson son 9 Scholar born Blackheath Staffs.

and is William Saint the William Adams born 1863 ?

but William Saint married to a Honour Brooks lived next door to Priscilla Johnson in 1891
but Ancestry select marriage has him as William J. Saint father John Saint and no John Saint son of Naomi and William Saint found so need to check marriage

Marriage looked up by RF 13 Mar 1881 St.Edmunds
William ADAMS 21 B Rivet Maker Dudley Father Joseph Adams Shoe Maker
Mary WALKER 21 S Dudley Father Felix Walker Gun Maker
After Banns The X Of Both
Wit; William Saint X / Priscilla Johnson X

I have put the William Adams born 1860 as the one who married Mary Walker

Witnesses on this wedding show William Saint and Priscilla Johnson (nee Saint)
There does not appear to be a William Saint in family so I think this William Saint is the William Adams born 1863 and is possibly son of Mary Saint before her marriage to Joseph Adams (widower of her sister Elizabeth Saint)
This is why two William Adams shown as sons on Joseph Adams and Mary Adams on 1871 Census and name reverts to Saint in 1881

1881 Census 234 Halesowen Road Rowley Regis Dudley Staffs.
Nehomi Saint Head 63 (wid) No Occupation born Tipton Staffs.
William Saint grd.son 18 Rivet Maker born Blackheath Staffs.
Pressilla Johnsonson lodger 28 (m) Nailer born Oldbury Worcs.
George Johnson son 9 Scholar born Blackheath Staffs.

There is no such person as John Saint and was probably put on record as William Saint was born out of wedlock to Mary Saint

All added and thanks again as I have been able to make numerous connections and I am still going
The most important aid apart from RF was witnesses at weddings which proved invaluable
