Re: RIP Victoria Wood
Sad indeed.
But I just read an article by the head of the psychiatric bit of the hospital here. He was pointing out just how much we are flooded by sad news and news of disasters. So more and more people suffer from symptoms of anxiety, feeling that the world is less safe than it used to be.
He attempted suicide twice himself, and wrote about it in a book, but now wishes that he had not because although he has moved on with his life people still perceive him as the man who tried to kill himself. So even though he is in a profession that encourages talking about problems, he actually seems to think that there is a lot to be said for keeping stuff fairly private (close friends/relatives) and just dealing with it.
I the spirit of this, I think we should watch some old Victoria Wood stuff on youtube and have a good laugh (or listen/dance to some Prince music if you prefer).

Such a shock when hearing the news. We went to see her some years ago at Birmingham Hippodrome where she did the show completely on her own and we had an absolutely fantastic night. The whole audience was rolling with laughter, especially the Barry & Freda song and the pink leotard keep-fit routine. Pure delight.

Thats interesting Gardner.I agree with the viewpoint that the media overflow we are being subjected to with regarding tragedies and disasters is causing a lot of people to suffer from anxiety symptoms and to only feel safe in their own comfortable environment. Also interesting is the statement of the psychiatric head that maybe people should keep quiet about their difficulties and just deal with it !! That's from a person whose job is to encourage people to talk !!
