*Arch * -Evans - Quarry Bank, Evans - Cradley Heath???

Post by julien1964 »

I have two different records for my Great Grandfather, Samuel Evans from the 1891 census. The first one is for "Pool Dam, Quarry Bank" which was then within the parish of Kingswinford and the second "Floodgates, G Pool" Cradley
Heath Rowley Regis. I know this must be near to "New Pool" and right on the border of the two parishes and is now the border of Dudley and Sandwell. Is this unusual or are records duplicated where people live on the edge of registration districts?

What are the records Julien? I don't know either but could be different people with different opinions on where Samuel was, Quarry Bank and Cradley meet at Cradley Forge and Lodge Forge Cradley Heath both on the River Stour, not sure where the Pool was situated. Wonder if Neville knows? HTH from Linell.

There are definitely 2 records but i have done some more digging - i didn't realise that there are descriptions of the districts covered.
The description for Rowley Regis District 20 actually refers to Samuel Evans residing at a house at the Floodgates and also refers to Silverthorne Lane Lomey Town. Funnily enough Silverthorne Lane is where my mom was bought up.
Are there any maps available from around this time?
I have seen a photo on the Cradley site that shows part of this area
