Re: Dissapearence?
I'm trying to request a certificate on line, however it's asking for the date of marriage and all I have is December 1902. Anyone have a suggestion?

Ok which site are you using GRo?
if so you need this link
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
go to order online and you need a volume and page no from this link
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
you need district
and the year
so on the free bmd link it says.
December Qtr
1902
Vol 6c
page 168
Names Mark Tolley
Sarah Brookes
Think that is all you need if you go via GRo just click on the order online think you have to login with an account.cost £9.25
The other way to order is via dudley council
here
https://dudley.firmstep.com/default.asp ... &HideAll=1
and then the link here...which has the Dudley council regis numbers at the end
1902 BROOKES Sarah TOLLEY Mark Tipton, St Martin (Pepper Box) Sandwell Register Office 39/17/221
and date should be enough along with names
just follow the prompts online
also I think you could ring up Smethwick archives and they may send you a copy of the entry for £? can't remember if they do this still and
what the cost is but it used to be less than GRO
or you could pop into Smethwick and photocopy yourself for pence
the choice is yours
does that help?

If you are going down the archives route the last number in that dudley lot of 3 numbers is the actual entry number
so they can go straight to the church...st to the year and then find the entry number in the register ie entry no 221.
do let us know will you what certif says when you get it
and would you like me to put that you connect on Sarah on Bcc

Re: Dissapearence?
I ordered the certificate today, had to go to the GRO as I couldn't pay at Dudley; I don't think their system works at the weekend. I will post the info when it arrives.

Re: Dissapearence?
The ordered marriage certificate has arrived, Sarah's father was as mentioned earlier Thomas Brooker who, at the time of the wedding (25/12/1902) was deceased. He was recorded as an "ironworker" on the certificate, what did come as surprise to me was my GGGrandfather was listed as a "Boatman". I'm guessing this was a canal boatman due to the location of their house. I say house as there is no address for my GGrandfather just Horsley Heath, Sarah lived in Ballfields which is where Ilived when I was born although at a different house.

Re: Dissapearence? RESOLVED
As far as I can make out, Marks Father (William) was born abt 1822 in Upton Warren, I'm unsure as to his mother as so far I've only managed to narrow it down to one of three possible women; I have a feeling at this point that William was actually married three times.
