The Seedhouse Family of Sedgley

Post by BostinFittle1982 »

A Grandfather of mine was William Hume (sometimes written as Hulme). He was born about 1843 in Dudley, Worcestershire, England to William Hume (abt 1818 Edinburgh, Midlothian) and Emily Evans (abt 1817 England).

In the 1851 Census he can be found at 57 Princes Street, Glasgow living with his parents and siblings Emily Hume (abt 1841), Robert Hume (abt 1844) and Thomas Hume (abt 1849). His Father is working as a Tailor (jour).

In the 1861 Census William, along with his brothers Robert and Thomas, is in the household of John and Eliza Seedhouse which is described as House of Jockey in Summerhill, Tipton. The Hume brothers are described as Nephews to Mr and Mrs Seedhouse. But who are the Seedhouse family and how are they related if at all?

Does anyone know who John Biddulph is? I looked at quite a few marriage records at St Peters in Wolverhampton and he appears as a witness on a lot of the records

Okay I'm just getting more confused. I've been to the Stafford and Dudley Achives to get copies of the marriage registries for both the Seedhouse and Hume marriages.

29th May 1838 St Peters Chuch, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England

John Seedhouse 30 Widower Miner Wolverhampton Thomas Seedhouse Miner
Eliza Evans 21 Spinster Servant Wolverhampton Benjamin Evans Blacksmith

3rd February 1840 St Thomas Church, Dudley, Worcestershire, England

William Hume Of full age Bachelor Tailor Campbell Street, Dudley William Hume (deceased) Cordwainor
Emily Evans Of full age Spinster Campbell Street, Dudley Linnard Evans (deceased) Blacksmith

Both registers match what I have in the previously mentioned Censuses but as you can see Emily and Eliza have a different name for their father. So why are Emily's sons living with Eliza as her nephews?
