Rock/Powell Confusion

We had a query about BCC why Ann Powell was added to this family.

I have been looking the last 2 days to try and sort somethings out…

We also have on our tree a William Powell and John Powell whose marriage record shows William Powell as father...

I feel that this is wrong and it should be in fact William Rock…
Job Powell who was Ann Powells son, NL has the birth cert for, was living with his aunt and uncle on census from 1861 + I cant find him in 1851, his birth 1849. His mother Ann I can’t see either but we just have an estimate for her birth.

Has anyone any thoughts on this please?

So you think the Wm Rock and Thomas Rock in 1841 with Wm Rock snr are
Wm POwell and Thomas Powell

are there any birth regs for those rock kids
so we could find out the mothers Mary surname

as it may be something else if Wm Rock is the one using Powell and Rock

Yep Jimmy, I have underlined the William and John I am on about...
When I was reading back on old threads about this family, Jimmy found a possible Burial. I will have to try and find that again... That was for Hannah Powell and a possible Burial for William Rock :?

of children of William Rock on bcc
Elizabeth Powell married William Siviter her father William Rock noted witnesses are John and Phoebe Tonkiss ( nee Siviter). Phoebe later married Thomas Powell
Thomas Powell married Phoebe Tonkiss (nee Siviter) as previously married to John Tonkiss father noted as William Rock
Eliza Powell married Gideon Steventon no father noted but witnesses are William and Elizabeth Siviter

Most likely explanation is that William Rock and Mary Powell did not marry so children used Powell surname when they married but shown as Rock on Cesus

The above children are obviously connected but

Need to find marriages of other children to see father noted
