Crooked House at Himley

Post by mumbles »

From a RF marriage look up on Emma Warby found this
Gladys Mary Warby (1896-1954) married William Edward Woodcock in 1920. William Edward Woodcock's family goes back to his great grandfather Joseph Woodcock who was the Inn Keeper of the Glynn Arms - now called the Crooked House on Himley Road, Staffordshire. Joseph Woodcock is listed in the 1861 and 1871 as the Inn Keeper of the Glynn Arms.

Surprised we have nothing on this on bcc

A couple of my Ancestors were Licenses of the Glynne Arms which was it's name before the Crooked House, George and Sarah Glaze, George died and Sarah became Land Lady in her own right, should be on the 1911 Census, if someone can check that date for me thanks. The Pub is on the edge of the Himley Estate was originally a Farm. Became 'Crooked' from subsidence. I remember going there years ago, surreal.

Loved going there during the 80s. Last time I went there during early 90s, it was still called Glynne Arms but better known as The Crooked House. Got a photo somewhere

Many thanks to San and Mumbles for all the Census information and tracing my Glaze Cousins, the Census makes fascinating reading when you can track a particular Home or Pub and see just who lived there over the years.
