Arc.............. which Thomas Herring?
Hi,
I've been doing some searching on the Family Tree and there are some baffling mysteries! I have been trying to find the correct parents for James Herrin/Herring (1815 - 18/5/1874)
There is a Thomas Herring B: 16 November 1788 marrying Fanny. Their children are: -
Henzey 1811 - 1846
John 1816
Henry 1819
Sarah 1821
As I couldn't find any James as one of Thomas and Fanny's sons, so I looked elsewhere, discovering 1841 Census that has a Mary Herring, aged 55 - who is she? Is she Thomas Herring's wife? There is a Thomas Herring (1786) on the same census, also at 55 with other Herrings: -
John - 25 Nailer
Ann - 20
John - 2
Emma - 4 months
James - 25 Nailer )__ They seem to be James Herring and Jane Newey, parents of Job Herrin, who is my Great, great, grandfather.
Jane - 20 )
Job - 4
George - 2
Emma - 2 months
Mary - 55 Nailer - Is this Mary the wife of Thomas Herring 1786 & mother of James?
On the other 1841 Census, there is a Fanny Herring also aged 55 along with other Herrings but not on the same pages as above... plus no Thomas Herring???
Sarah - 20
Mary - 9
Henry - 20
Mary - 20
Matilda - 2
Elizabeth - 1 & half.
I've found a bit more on Mary Sparrow B:1765 who married Thomas Herring on 10 July 1785 at St. Martin's, Worcestershire. Their children are: -
John 1786
Thomas 1786
Mary 1790
Maria 3/10/1793 - 15/3/1827 Maria married Jonathan Taylor at Clent on 8/11/1813
Sarah 1794
Betty 1796
Joseph 1797
Charlotte 1803
Under Mary Sparrow, are FHL Film numbers: 415132, 415133, 415134, 415135 - what are they and will I be able to find out more from them?
I hope I have put enough down and would really appreciate some advice on how to link James to the correct Thomas Herring.

Thanks. For some reason I can't find James Herring (1816) under Thomas Herring (1788) & Frances but can find him under Thomas Herring (1786) along with a Mary Herring (1786) on the 1841 Census along with James' wife Jane & their children. :/
Are we able to trace ancestors of Thomas Herring & Mary Sparrow as well as other members of the family from that era?

Re: Hi from a newbie trying to find out which Thomas Herring
I dont understand what you mean about the being "under" Thomas?
If you add another thread we could see if we can find the other with Mary Sparrow?
It is very difficult once you get to 1841 census, ages should be round down to the lower 5 and it doesnt show relationships. Then it is Parish records and it is not always as easy to know who is who.

Mary, 9. All born in County
Living nextdoor
Henry Herring, 20, Nailer,
Mary, 20,
Matilda, 2,
Elizabeth, 1 m?
All born in County
Schedule 17
1841. Waste Bank Old Swinford.
John Herring, 25, Nailor

Thanks for that, Jo
That does look so much neater typed that way compared with viewing the scribble on the 1841 Census. But unfortunately I can't find James Herrin/Herring as the son of Thomas & Frances Herring, only John (1816) who is of the same baptism age as James (1816).
Have found Thomas Herring (1786) son of Thomas Herring & Mary Sparrow (1765) who got married on the 10th July 1785 at St. Martin's, Worcestershire.

Many thanks for explaining OMD & also for providing the link to Family Search, which was the link I had used several years ago to find my ancestors but lost it as technology changes and our old PC died so starting over again.
