William James Buck
http://www.bcconnections.tribalpages.co ... =433740519
and his brother John Buck
http://www.bcconnections.tribalpages.co ... =937751661

Both Families emigrated to Canada in 1900 to 1910

and both enlisted in Canadian Expeditionary Force aged 58 and 56

Attestation 9/5/1918 Canada Soldiers of WW1 Canadian Expeditionary Force
John Buck born 30/11/1862 Oldbury Worcs. Miner of Springhill Cumberland County Wife Annie reg. no. 2699250 aged 56

Canada Soldiers WW1 Attestation 6/5/1918
Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force
William James Buck Miner born 12/7/1860 Oldbury Worcs.
Wife Sophia Buck reg.no. 2699251
Address Springhill Cumberland Nova Scotia

Note Reg. numbers are one after the other

Was it unusual for men of 56 and 58 to enlist or was it because they were miners and could tunnel

All Ancestry Trees have not found Canada link
and have family wrong after 1881

They would have been used as sappers. Many miners from Commonwealth countries were recruited for that purpose.
