Can we help Frodo?

This image is the same as one I have several copies of - sent to my father by my grandfather in 1930 as a postcard - says the 6 houses just below where the children are standing belonged to his grandma (my great grandmother) - would love to know more as my parents now deceased. My great grandmother and grandfather are Nathan Taylor (1832-1911) and Martha Manger Taylor (1864-1943).

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

I was born at 72 Beaumont Road in 1942 ( Today it is 18 Beaumont Road)
The shop in photograph looks like Woottons Shop which was on corner of Belgrave Road and Beaumont Road.
It used to sell grocery and Sweets and a Mrs. Wooton used to run it. Shop was knocked down about 1970 and small flats built.
The houses below it I remember as their was a path that ran right round the back and you could enter between shop and houses and come out at other end.
on photograph our house was further down street on same side but not in photo.
On opposite side of road was a smaller shop run in front room of house and opposite our house was Lucy Windsors sweet shop.
Also opposite Woottons shop on Belgrave Road side was a large Drapers Shop/Warehouse.

Thanks - really useful information - it confirms my suspicions that the road has been renumbered - I thought I could see the houses on Google Earth (I live near Sheffield) but the numbers made no sense. My dad has written that he used to live at number 58 - my grandparents moved to Blackpool in 1928 and Martha Manger Taylor was living with them when she died in 1943 but don't know whether she moved in 1928 or later and at what point the houses ceased to belong to her. I understand that my grandparents lived in the end house and Martha lived next to them (Nathan died 1911). I had wondered if there was another block of identical houses but maybe they were just renumbered.

Had a quick look at 1911 Census for Beaumont Road and there are about 30 houses there including 58 and 59
at 59 a Joseph Thomas Siviter 43 is living
1902 map shows about same number of houses
House were mainly built in groups of 4 with a covered entry between middle two which accessed a walkway to backs of houses for tradesmen, coalmen and dustmen. Some of walkways had a water pump available for all four houses.
If you Google 18 Beaumont Road you can see entry one door up now covered in with Black Door.

Just did an accurate check on Beaumont Road Houses
1902 Map has 18 Houses
1911 Census Has 62 Houses running from 5 upto 75 ( some gaps)
so a lot of building between 1902 and 1911
58 up to 75 look as if on Belgrave Road side of Road
and 5 up to 53 look as if on opposite side of Road
Numbers appear to change some time after 1944 when my brother was born at 72 and today when houses bear no relationship to pre-1944 numbers ( nb. 72 is now 18)

Reference 63 Houses in Beaumont Road I have Identified all families on 1911 Census and started going through them and adding to bcc.
So far I have found at least 20 are already on bcc or connect to others on bcc.
example :-
This Hadley family that connects to Rob
http://www.bcconnections.tribalpages.co ... =616149191
follows through to Joseph Hadley who married a Rebecca Price .
Rebecca was widowed and lived at 48 Beaumont Road in 1911

1911 Census 48 Beaumont Road Blackheath Cakemore Birmingham Worcs.
Rebeckah Hadley Head 52 (wid) Sent from son in America born Warley Worcs.
Ettie Hadley dau 18 Laundry Maid
Jenny Price adopted dau 7 born Warley Worcs.
Annie Walton dau 31 (m) Send from Husband in America
Married 4 years, 2 children 2 living
Fred Walton son
Joseph Walton
All born Hurst Green Worcs.

All these family members emigrated to New York between 1909 and 1913

I will work gradually through others families but it will take a while
