Putting text onto a copied photo

How do I put text onto a copied photo

I have saved it in a word doc.....so how do it put text onto it?

is it somat to do with text wrapping

basically I have a photo of a graveyard and I want to put names on the graves onto the photo

I do it using a graphics program, Paint.net is a reasonably good free one. You load your picture onto it and, if you want a subtitle, expand the canvas downwards, then, using the Text tool which you can justify left, right, centre etc. type in the words. You can choose different text sizes, colours, typefaces etc. You can 'pick' a colour from the photo and use that. Also you can add background colour to the box. Or you can type directly onto the picture.

Here are examples that I've done in the 10 minutes or so since first posting the above

I was after putting in small boxes on that google earth photo Peterd found (see the sticky in black country genealogy re christ church graveyard)

I wanted to get it as large as we can then put tags or notes on the existing graves so that we know which ones are which in graveyard.

I think I can do it in paint but finding it difficult as the boxes are so small.

think it is a bit beyond me.....can anyone put the notes on for us if we find which graves are which?

SRD could you have a go at that one that Peterd has put on and see if you can blow up the photo and then put a box on each of the graves?

Then that is maybe something we could do when it is all cleared in graveyard..

I wonder if it would be easiest it do it as a .pdf file? If you have the photo in Word, hover over the "save as" button and then click "PDF". Once it is a .pdf all you have to do is use the "sticky note" to add little notes. They can be opened for information or closed to look tidy.
Is that what you want?

Or do you want to have it so that the information is always available to view?

In Word you would click "Insert"; text box; then at the bottom of that is "draw text box" which allows you to put the box where ever you want. The font size needs be small - I used 4. Then you click "Insert"; shapes; and add an arrow to the grave.

The Word box thing certainly looks the way to go, you might want to do a numbered grid of some sort or some kind of measurement from a given point, say the corner of the church so that people can identify the exact spot of a grave. Of course some kind soul could go and take GPS readings of each grave. That might be considered in future by those who are kindly taking photos of gravestones.

I wondered if you should put a grid over the main photo and then take each square and enlarge the image before adding the notes. Otherwise it will be hard to see what is what.
Or maybe you should put numbers on the photo and have all the text in one place? If you are planning on doing the whole graveyard it would be a lot of "boxes". I think I would go that route actually. You would add the numbers in a textbox in the same way but with no fill and no outline (so only see the numbers).

accually just checked out the prices for a gps attachment for my camera, got a lot cheaper now compared to the first time i looked might even buy one

Have asked the council if they have a map of the graveyard....they dont have a plan of who is buried there have asked that
but I mean a plain sort of ordance survey one...so I could put in large boxes with the names of grave superimposed on.

I am going to go over next few weeks to sort out the graves that are there onto a sort of map/plan
and as I am not very good on a comp.

Can you give me a step by step guide so as I sort out something useful to others.

so do I grid the google map?
if so how do I do that

do I wait and see what council have re plain map...then but boxes on with surname in...and then another note with say 1 is Rose Grave ..then a photo..would have to reduce that....then gravestone trib. and burial info from regis....if I can transcribe it.
-so they have map and then there is an index 1-? with photos and burial info


really do need a dummies guide to doing this please as once I have it and know how to present it I can roll it out.

Click on top item “Cemetery southwest of junction…….”

Next page you’ll see the graveyard in the middle of the map. Just below the map on the right hand side you’ll see "Info", "Zoom In", "Zoom Out" etc. If you click on the zoom in or out box you need to put your mouse over the map and click to make the map larger or smaller.

Click on “Twin-window mode” you’ll then see on the left the map and on the right the aerial view.

I was going to try and copy the actual Graveyard area outline onto a word doc but it wont let me
but I can draw the shape in and then put the Graves in that shape.

Does anyone know how I can draw that shape on a word doc?
