Re: Guest Children ?
Not looked at this properly but just had a quick look at the 1911 Census and Daniels age has been mistranscribed, it says 68 on the image
also Herbert & Maria are down as Stepson and Stepdaughter. Leonard? could be Boarders son?

Re: Guest Children ?
Stepson & Dau. crossed out and Boarder inserted
The 68 is correct for Daniel as born in 1843

Re: Guest Children ?
I’ve been thinking along the same lines as Jo.
On the 1911 census
1911 Census Windmill Bank Wombourne Wolverhampton Staffs.
James Rogers Head 36 (wid) Road Labourer
Married 12years, 6 children,3 living Married c1899
Daniel Guest boarder 63 (wid) Stone Breaker
John Rogers son 11 Scholar
William Rogers son 5 Scholar
Herbert Guest boarder/ step son 20 Gardener Domestic
Maria Guest boarder/ step dau 17
Leonard Guest boarder/ bye son 14 Out of Work Born 1897
Alfred Guest boarder 6 Scholar
All born Wombourne Staffs.
Against Herbert and Maria the words step son and step dau are crossed through and Boarder is written. Against Leonard’s name the word BYE Son is crossed through and written Boarder.
I remember my Mom years ago using the words Bye child for an illegitimate child. So, why differentiate between a step son or daughter and write Bye Son. I’m thinking that Leonard (Births Mar Qtr 1897 Leonard Guest Wolverhampton 6b 569 – Alice would have been 24yrs old) could have been Alice Guest & James Rogers child before they married (Marriages Dec 1898 Alice Guest & James Rogers Wolverhampton 6b 1123)
It’s feasible that Herbert and Maria could also be the illegitimate children of Alice Guest, as why would James Rogers (Alice’s husband) put step son and step daughter?
Births Dec 1890
Guest Herbert Wolverhampton 6b 480 – Alice would have been 17yrs old
Births Jun 1893
Guest Maria Wolverhampton 6b 601 – Alice would have been 20yrs old
I can’t see a possible marriage or death for Emma Guest (Alice’s sister.) Even if Emma did marry, why weren’t Herbert and Maria living with her?
There are some Wombourne BMDs on Ancestry, but not for these children.
???Deaths Jun 1910
ROGERS Alice 37yrs Wolverhampton 6b 280 Born: 1873
Certificates would help, but.....
