The Talbot, Hill Top, West Bromwich, Staffoedshire

The Talbot, Hill Top, West Bromwich, Staffordshire

In researching my family tree I have discovered that my 3 x great grandmother drowned in the Birmingham canal in 1851. Her newspaper inquest report states that she had been living at The Talbot, Hill Top at the time of her death. Further research led to me find that it was her son Charles Davis who was the licensee of The Talbot at this period of time which would explain why she had been living there. All that I know of The Talbot pub is it’s name & that it was in the Hill Top area & I would very much like to learn more about it such as where exactly it was situated & any stories connected to it. I would especially love to see any old photo’s of the pub should anyone know of any please.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Have you tried looking at the addresses close to the Talbot on the census - also the description of the enumeration district. Might give you an idea of where it was.

Have you tried this site, you'll have to trawl through the images, but there are some good ones there:

Being a newbie I know how to check out the census returns by a person's name but not by address & I didn't know about there being an enumeration district description. Thank you, I shall look into this.

I did come across this site on the net & have looked through all of the photo's. Sadly, there were none of the pubs that I am interested in but it was still good to look through none the less.

If you can access the images, it's usually the first entry on ancestry, it'll be page one, once you've got the image of the correct census.
The description of the area covered by that part of the census is usually fairly detailed, but note that not all parts of the same street are necessarily covered by the same enumeration district.
If you have Find My Past, it's possible to search by address, although even with the correct address, it doesn't always get a hit. Sometimes the entries are listed by house number, sometimes by schedule number, and sometimes both! I can't see a description of the enumeration district on FMP, it doesn't seem to be included in the image sets.
