Stafford family of Dudley

Post by apowell »

Hi,

I'm attempting to find further information on my ancestor John Stafford who married Elizabeth ?? and had a number of children baptised at Dudley:
Stephen 28 Dec 1794 died 16 Mar 1796 issue none
Ann 27 Mar 1796 died 22 Oct 1800 issue none
Sarah 20 Oct 1799
Mary Ann 18 Apr 1802
Joseph 25 Jan 1807
Nehemiah 25 Dec 1808
Elenore 30 Dec 1810
Esther 15 Nov 1812
James 22 Jan 1815 (father: Abode Dudley- malt maker)
Benjamin 7 Dec 1817 (father: Abode Dudley- maltser)

I believe John Stafford was bapt' 17th Nov 1781, at Dudley son of John & Rosanna. John Stafford marred Rosanna Holt 7th Aug 1780, St Thomas church, Dudley.

I was hoping someone could locate the marriage entry of John & Elizabeth ???

Kind regards
Adrian

Adrian: Was John born before his parents married in 1780?
John babtised: 1781 and his first child born 1794. John would have
only been 13 otherwise???

I never checked the dates and maybe that's why I can't find a marriage entry when I was only looking around the 1790's :P

I'll need to re-check my information and will be back in touch.

Many thanks

Seen another John STAFFORD b.1781 (son of John * Rosanna Holt)
on a tree on Ancestry, I don't know how authentic it is but the first
son John b.1804, might be worth while starting around there. Other
children were...Joseph 1807..Eleanor 1810..James 1815..Benjamin 1817.

Hi,

I've re-checked my information on my Stafford ancestors and I'm starting to suspect that my ancestor John may well have moved from outside the area. I'm not convinced that the John who married Rosanna Holt were the parents of the above John who married Elizabeth for the following reasons:

Source: freereg
Rosanna wife of John Stafford buried Brierley Hill 18 May 1828 Abode Quarry bank age 67
John Stafford buried Brierley Hill 12 Nov 1835 Abode Quarry banks age 85

John Stafford buried Dudley 15 Sept 1839 Abode Dudley age 77
Elizabeth Stafford buried Dudley 15 Dec 1841 Abode Dudley age 62

I believe these are the married couples mentioned and I notice the difference in age which may suggest that both John's may have already married and given the age difference between the Johns it would be impossible for them to be father and son as I suspected.

Joseph the son of John and Elizabeth bapt 25 Jan 1807 married:

Source freereg
8 Mar 1836
Holy Trinity church, Bobbington, Staffordshire
Joseph Stafford, abode Dudley, bach'
Hannah Malpas, abode this parish, spinster

Bobbington is situated near Trysull and this was interesting:

source igi
Trysull, Staffordshire, England
parents: John & Elisabeth Stafford
bapt: 3 Sep 1797
child: Elizabeth Stafford

The above Staffords were the only ones listed but is it possible the Dudley Staffords were somehow connected to Trysull area. The Stafford family around Brierley hill seem to be connected pre-18th century to the Kingswinford area (according to the IGI). The only other interest find was:

source igi
Wombourne
10 Aug 1722
Jeremiah Stafford & Sarah Male

I found children of the above baptised at Kingswinford.

Any ideas ??

Kind regards
Adrian

Sorry Adrian: The only one I can find that 'might' fit the bill, considering John's
date of birth, and that he may be out of the region is:
13th. May 1799. Bakewell, Derbyshire.
John STAFFORD/Elizabeth WILKINSON.

Good Luck:

Hi,

Thanks for your post and I'll need some intense research on parish records most likely not available on the web.

This can be archived and if I find any further information I'll be in touch.

Many thanks
