Unusual Stipulation in Will

Post by mumbles »

This Joseph Silvers Williams of Brierley Crystal fame agreed to change all family name to Silvers Williams-Thomas in order to comply with will of father.in.law Thomas Davies Thomas and inherit £88,838

http://www.bcconnections.tribalpages.co ... =942073061

Will of Thomas D. Thomas of Parc Postyn Denbighshire and Bank House Stourbridge Worcs.
Died 23/11/1902 Probate to son.in.law Joseph Silvers Williams Glass Manufacturer and Roland Hill Esq. Stipulated no son so could Williams family adopt Williams Thomas name
Effects £87,102 15s 9d
Resworn £ 88,838
As at 1911 Census family changed name to Silvers Williams- Thomas
and family continued with this till modern times

I have followed up all connections and added but
cannot find Samuel Cox Williams ( father of Joseph Silvers Williams) before 1851 Census
and cannot find Thomas Davies Thomas before 1851

Records of Brierley Crystal show that firm started by Joseph Silvers who married an Anna Maria Stevens
and became Silvers and Stevens as some connection between William and James Stevens and Anna Maria Stevens ( not sorted this)
and then became Stevens and Williams when Samuel Cox Williams married in turn two daughters of Joseph Silvers
and then Royal Brierley Crystal in 1931
