ARC TBC................Alfred Eli Hingley--

As shown on the thread by Nessa re: George Frederick Hingley I found reference to the first marriage of Alfred Eli Hingley, the son of Barzillai Hingley:, so I thought I would share other information I found  .

As previously shown, The Worcestershire Chronicle of 5 October 1870 had a family notice reporting the marriage, on September 27th in the Parish Church, Rock, of Alfred E Hingley, of Lane End Farm, Heightington, fifth son of Mr Hingley, Chain and Cable Manufacturer, Cradley Heath, to Eliza Maria, third daughter of Mr Dorrell, The Wild, Heightington, Rock. This is confirmed by a BMD record reference Cleobury Mortimer 6a 938 but this and other records show his wife was Eliza Louisa not Maria :!: .

Alfred's link to this area comes from the fact that his father had acquired Lane End Farm by this time.

Alfred and Eliza are shown in the 1871 census living in High Street, Reddall Hill and he is described as a Chain Manufacturer.

Eliza died in the March quarter of 1877; BMD reference Cleobury M 6a 433 :( .

BCC has his subsequent marriage to Martha Sidaway and the Worcester Journal of Saturday 20 February 1881 reports the transfer of the Bliss Gate Inn, Rock from a George Evans to Alfred Eli Hingley. Another edition of the same paper (of 28 May 1881) reports that Alfred and Martha had a 'house warming' in the Bliss Gate Inn with 100 seated guests.

The 1881 census confirms his new role as a Publican in the Bliss Gate Inn but the 1891 census shows he was an Innkeeper in the Littleton (?) :? Arms in Halesowen but thereafter he is separated from his family and BCC already shows how he tragically ended his life :( .

His widow Martha and two of his children, Fred (Railway Clerk) and Elsie (School Teacher) are shown in the 1911 census living in 53 Holly Lane, Smethwick.

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

You cannot beat the evidence of your own (or Peter's eyes) but the deaths of the spouses of Barzillai senior and Barzillai junior are also confirmed by online copies of newspaper articles:

Worcestershire Chronicle 9 June 1888 – family notice reporting the death on 3 June of Ann, widow of Barzillai Hingley, chain manufacturer, of Cradley Heath. (i.e. Ann Worrall).

Worcestershire Chronicle 18 November 1899 – family notice reporting the death on 14 November of Mary, wife of Barzillai Hingley, C.C., Shakespeare Villa, Cradley Heath. (i.e. Mary Hickman).
