Have you tried the parish records on Ancestry too?


The first one is my Gt-Gt-Grandfather. The second one is coincidental and unrelated (Herbert and Charles were probably popular names at the time). There are no parish records, presumably because he was registered at the registry office, not in a church. Which adds weight to the idea that his birth record is largely fictional. His mother was probably not married, and certainly not to the non-existant Charles William Hill.
