Grandads RAF service records advice

Post by dazwhites2003 »

Hi. I have recently and finally gotten hold of my grandads service records from the MOD. I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer. Under the Reason column there are a number of letter H, HH or in some cases three H's in the shape of a triangle, any clue to what these letters mean? Under the unit column there are many different numbers and abbreviations including 8281 SE, 101 PDC, 8279 SE plus many others which I can't read, what do any of these mean. The only one I can make out is 254 sqdn which I guess is the 254 squadron which my grandad was stationed with in August 1945.
His rank starts as AC2 in 1941 and by 1945 it has changed to LAC, could anyone explain what these mean?
Finally under the trade column my grandads trade is described as F/ARM.G and F/ARM.T what do these mean?

Any help would be much appreciated
