Is there a way to get an approximate date range for when someone enlisted from their regimental service number?

The info I have is

!st Bt South Staffordshire regiment 18879

hello simon,
if he william veal? enlisted 11th may 1915 in brum aged 37 years 5 months 10 days 5 foot 3 inch tall polisher from springfield area of brum.
his service papers are on ancestry
