there 552 mention of botman in bcc not one a hodgetts

to find this click find
then click advance search type boatman into blank section next to contain
then click search this site

leave everything else blank

if you put hodgetts in surname nothing shows

Hi
This site has him only, it has same first wife but different second wife though same marriage details as regards witness church and year? [I wonder if that is just a mix-up with the son William? Anyhow, doesn't add to what you know but might put people more in the picture]
http://www.wedmore.org.uk/stone/hodgetts/index.html

Is there any joy to be had from chasing after Benjamin the witness in the first marriage?

I supplied the info for the Wedmore site, and yes I think there is a mix-up with 2nd wifes surname.Eldest son Wlm and his half brother John (mine) married 2 sisters (surname Hall from Stourport)

Jackie

ps Did notify re.mix-up ages ago.

Can you add any Census information you have Jac, for Wm and his children, that would help. Benjamin Hodgetts the Marriage Witness must either be Wm's father or brother I would think.

The census doesn't really help - I think Jackie wouldn't be struggling if it did

Here are some of them, this is William jnr.
1841
Worcester Street, Worcester, Holy Cross district
William Hodgets 30 waterman n
Harriott 30 n
Betsy 12 y
Harriott 10 y
Jane 8 y
Amelia 3 y
Sarah Morris 16 ind y

I can't find William and Harriet snr in 1841 but in 1851 they are

Tallow Hill, Worcester
William Hodgetts 70 boatman Worcestershire Hallow
Harriet 62 ditto

then in 1861 William snr is with his married daughter Elizabeth, aged 82 boatman, born Worcester.

So that is it, born Hallow about 1780. Guess he could have been baptized anywhere or nowhere if his father was also a boatman, anywhere near the Severn at least.

Can't find Wlm (snr) in 1841, and the number of times I've looked at the 1851 entry (Worcester) Would it be stretching it to think that Hallow should be Halesowen? The entries do appear to be over-written.
Two of their sons were bapt.at Halesowen -Samuel 1812 and my 3xg.grandfather John 12th Feb 1815 -Parents Wlm (boatman) + Harriet Hodgetts -Residence Haden Hill.
Happy with the 1861 census for Wlm (snr)

A little info re.Benjamin Hodgetts witness at Wlm's 1st marriage to Elizb.Trowmans

Marriage 9 April 1798 Kingswinford - Benj.Hodgetts + Hannah Trowmans.
