ARC TBC - Stumped
I have been tracing one of my ancestors, and have found him in the 1911 census with his wife. From local cemetery records, it shows his wife died in 1912, and a death certificate confirms it is her. There is no record in any of the local cemeteries for him. I thought he may have been cremated.
Checked on Free BMD and found some suitable dates and ages that match. Contacted the local registry office with details, and they told me it's not him.
I am now thinking that he may have moved and gone to live with one of his children, whom I do not know the names of. He could have died anywhere in the country and at any time after 1912.
Had thought of looking on free BMD for dates and age at death, but that will return hundreds of matches all over the country between 1912 - 1940 or so.
Any ideas ?

Re: Stumped
1911 Census
Married 28 years 7 children 3 living 4 died
James Martin Head 46 Ocker Hill Staffs
Elizabeth Wife 47 (Formerly Baugh Married 1883 in Staffs)
Dora Dau 12 Coventry
Ethel Vera May Dau 7 Pontypool
Address 1 Clarewain Terrace Pontypool
I am unable to find any of them in the 1891 & 1901 census's. It is possible that the children were staying with their grandparents or relatives when the census was taken, and James was working away. He would have been listed as a boarder.
Only found one match for the Obvious Dora b. 1899 but does not seem to be the one.
Maybe a fresh pair of eyes on it would find something I have missed or ignored.

Re: Stumped
I have searched the 1901 census for James, wife and Dora, but have been unable to find them all together. Found a Dora, who was born in Coventry, but shows her as the daughter of different parents.
Have found loads of Elizas and loads of James's, but none of them seem to match. Think James was working away, or staying with someone as a lodger at the time of the census.
Would be nice to find the births of the Children, but as I don't know their names, that's pretty much a non starter.

contact the local council and find where the burial records are kept contact the record office give them the name and date of death for elizabeth martin and they should able to tell you who if any one else is buried in the same grave plus who bought the plotand when, as she had 4 children that died there is a good possibility that there a couple buried with her and you should get there names this will allow you to search for local birth cert especially if they are infants

I can't see them either.
Do you have the marriage details? I can't see that on FreeBMD either

Re: Stumped
Did not purchase a marriage certificate, but found a match on free BMD for James & Elizabeth 1883 Staffordshire.
From her death certificate (1912) it shows her surname as formerly Baugh.

Re: Stumped
The only marriage I can see on FreeBMD in 1883 which might be a possibility is in Stafford District for James Adams Martin and Elizabeth Ball. It might be worth a call to the local Register Office.
There's no place like home ......

I have burial records for the local churches. That's how I found a possible match for Elizabeth and then bought the death certificate. James is not listed, so obviously not buried in that Church, or as I suspect area.
There are no children buried with her and as far as I know none buried locally. But then as the only two children I know of are female, they would not be Martins anyway.
James and Eliza were married in Staffs in 1883 and by 1903 they had 7 children. Dora, listed as being born in Coventry, but the only match for Dora shows different parents. Maybe they gave her away to James and Eliza ?
I have tried searching for James and Eliza in the census's, but cannot find them in the 1891 and 1901 census. A big clue would be a Dora, but it's possible she was staying with her grandparents when the census was taken.
As I don't know the names of the other 5 children (4 of whom died) I am a bit stuck as to pursuing the path of obtaining birth or death certificates for them. Made worse by the fact that I don't know which area they lived in

Re: Stumped
You could do some isolating of possibilities by matching up births and deaths of children through that period. There might be a residence link that highlights more likely candidates.

So I search on births for ? Martin, parents James and Eliza between 1883 and 1899 Countrywide
Then search for the deaths and cross check them all. Hoping that they have not moved between the birth and the death.
I think it would be far easier to look on free BMD for possible deaths of James Martin 1912 - about 1940 then contact the registry offices concerned with details to see if it's the correct one, before purchasing a death certificate.
