Caleb William Roberts, son of John Roberts who had a small timber business at Brierley Hill, went into business with Ebenezer Elias Cooper of The Laurels, Brierley Hill, forming Roberts and Cooper, which carried on ironworks at Bromley, the Leys, Brettell Lane, (acquired from the family of Thomas Webb, who was better known as a glass manufacturer at Amblecote) and Great Bridge, and sawmills and timber yards at Nine Locks, Brierley Hill, and at Stourbridge Canal wharf.

E.E.Cooper died on 20 October 1916, a few days after attaining his 86th birthday, and Caleb Roberts was killed on 25 September, 1918, when he was supervising the removal of an old boiler at the Bromley Ironworks. He had become a very wealthy man leaving an estate of 160, 977. Owned Wollaston Hall but this tragedy and others in family caused problems with probate of will and estate collapsed financially and in 1928 Wollaston Hall was demolished and Estate dissolved
