1891 census:

19, Hall Street, Brierley Hill
Anthony Booth VC, Head, M, 44, (Soldier?) Regt. Inspectr., born Nottinghamshire (Bashford?)
Lucy Booth, Wife, M, 43, born Ireland
Florence Booth, Dau., S, 17, Dressmaker, born China, Hong Kong
Harry Booth, Son, 15, (?) Maker's Assistant, born China, Hong Kong
Andrew Booth, Son, 9, Scholar, born Ireland
(?) Booth, Son, 7, Scholar, born Ireland

The entry was quite difficult to read with several crossings out, hence the question marks.

Hi Pete I have some information on Anthony Booth from a Brierley Hill book:-

He was born 21.4.1846 Nottinghamshire. Was posted to Ireland in 1864 where he Married. By 1872 he was a Sgt and followed a few overseas postings to Singapore, Hong Kong and 1878 to South Africa. During action on the 12.3.1879 against thousands of Zulu Warriors Sgt Booth commanded a small force of Soldiers covering the retreat of 50 Survivors. He was awarded the VC by Queen Victoria on the 14.5.1880 at Windsor Castle. From there Sgt Booth was moved from Dublin to Lichfield where he completed 21 years service moving with the South Staffs Regiment to Brierley Hill. He retired in 1898 after 33 years service. The family lived in William Street Brierley Hill, where Sgt Booth died from Rheumatic Fever and Yellow Jaundice on the 8th Dec 1899.

His funeral was a huge affair with all the pomp and ceremony befitting a Hero. He was buried in St Michael's Churchyard where there was a 24 Gun Salute.

Oh thanks Feralunderclass, have been there, not recently, but it is not far from me, will have to go and have a look, think the Museum there is all being extended, a big new development going on for the Medical Core who have taken over the Barracks.
