Does this help? Thomas could still be William's son -- interesting that if it is the same lot he distinguishes between Thomas and John in 1851 --- he would not have been able to marry Sylvia in 1841 without parent's consent

he might of been born a smith out of wedlock but it seem he is happy to call himself hackett in the census and on his marriage cert also he names his father as william did he know he was a smith or was william his actual father then married his mother ?
