ARC TBC..................Priscilla Moore----

Post by Greenfox »

Priscilla was my great, great grandmother. She married Joseph Dingley in 1846, although her son, Thomas was born out of wedlock. The family name became Dingley-Moore, but later the Dingley was dropped and our family name remains Moore. Unfortunately, I cannot find trace of her further back. On the marriage certificate, her father's name is given as James Moore, labourer. I can find no trace of either Priscilla nor James on any census records further back. My father always said that she came from 'far away' and he maintained that this was Ireland; 1846 was the year of the Irish potato famine. According to the records, her place of birth is given as Halesowen, so its a bit of a puzzle. If anyone can shed any light, or advise as to how to trace Irish immigrants, I'd be very grateful!

Witnesses were George and Ann Dingley. George was Joseph's brother and Ann presumably his wife. There is no sister recorded.
Been on Bcc site. No ancestors of Priscilla recorded

Looks possible, but rather a drop from engineer to labourer, which was the occupation given on Priscilla's marriage certificate! Many thanks!

The Baptism found by SRD says - Daughter of James & Nancy Halesowen Thatcher. Think James has a brother Thomas More who is also having children Baptised at Cradley in the same time frame. Thomas is also a Thatcher..

Oh sorry Poster was sp1.

That's ok Linell!

It's the ONLY Priscilla I can see in the right time period, AND her father is James. Occupation is a puzzle, but that could have changed over the years.

I descend from the Kingswinford Moores, and don't think there is a Priscilla among them, so not so sure about that James & Sarah that Peter found.

Hi Steve sorry am on my Mobile, can't see the screen too well, in the dark. Yes I think Priscilla with Parents James & Nancy. They are in Gibbett Lane Hasbury in 1861. I only looked on Griffs4bears so could not see James's Occupation. But they are not living far from Priscilla. James could have been a Thatchers Labourer? Our Ancestors were not always precise with their Occupations.
