ARC TBC................William Parkes where next?

Post by Jano »

Hi
Can someone suggest what I do next please?

I have been looking for William Parkes who was my G Grandfather (born 1842). I have traced him back to the 1851 census which states his age as 8. He is living with his Grand Parents. His Grandfathers name is Thomas Woodall and both Thomas and William are nailors. They are living in Belper Row in Darby Hand.

I understand that Belper Row got its name from the nailors who moved from Derby and so I am wondering if William's parents were still living in Derby and that William moved to the Black Country with his grandparents, though his birthplace is stated as Dudley. Failing that, I wonder what has happened to them and why William was living with Grand Parents. I would love to find out exactly where he was born and who his parents were and what happened to them

Can someone suggest what I do next. ??? When I looked at the census I didn't take note of the age of Thomas, maybe that would have helped????

Thank you

So how do you know mother of Emma Parkes is Ann Round did you get her (Emmas) birth certif.
Just so we know for sure that the William Parkes that marries Ann Round is your line
if it is then we know Wms father is a Thomas Parkes

I have the marriage info courtesy of Rf ....did you never get the marriage certif for William Parkes and Ann Jano?
I will add to Bcc
father for that William Parkes is a Thomas Parkes

on 1901 next to Wm Parkes and Ann is a John Woodall b abt 1867 RR with a son Jesse

For the moment on Bcc added in Thomas Parkes as son of Maria parkes
but it doesnt feel right.
Unless she was prev married to an Unknown Parkes
need to see marital status on original at archives.

Hi

I traced William via. my Grandfather - John Pugh (1882), he married Emma Parkes (1884). I know for a fact that Emma came from Reddal Hill Road and when I looked them up on the census, names in the household started to ring bells with me. There was a deaf and dumb brother which I knew of and I know there was a connection to the "Rounds". The census showed Emmas mother as Ann and in 1891 John Round (Ann's Father) was living with them as I assume that her mother(Leah) had died. I worked it back and I am fairly certain that Ann Round married William Parkes in 1862 at Dudley Top Church (St. Thomas). Anne's father I think was John (1816/17 - Dudley) and her mother was Leah Smith? and they lived Bowling Green. Again I can remember there being links to Bowling Green??. I have worked back again and found John's father, Joseph marrying Mary Pearsall on 15th March 1802.

I have traced all of this simply by looking at the census coupled with a little of what I think is true. Do you think I am barking up the wrong tree??

As I had found our so much (as I thought) about Emma's Mother, I though I would "start" on William, but all this started because I wanted to find out how many generations ago the "Pugh's left Wales but got stuck and so started on my grandmothers side.

Does this make sense to you?? I am really quite a novice at this.

Hi Jano no that sounds good

we are running with a thread in the Black Country Genealogy section on JOhn Round cos
I want to link him to Rounds on Bcc.

so will check if we have info on JOhn marrying Leah and his parents.

So Jimmy.......wot you think then....how do they connect

could do with this moving to BC section .............any mods awake that could shift this pls
