Smyth in America.

Post by Margaret J »

Hi everyone, My fathers uncle I believe emigrated to America (year not known) but my grandmother had three brothers
but I suspect it was one of the two youngest who went either James Smyth 21 b.1880 or Thomas Smyth 19 b.1882, about 4 or 5 years ago the firm Heir Hunters rang to ask if all my fathers siblings were dead as his first cousin in America had died and left a significant amount of money but as the state the cousin died in did not allow it to go any further than first cousins I said don't tell me how much, haha no sense in knowing what we missed out on...
Now I have no idea when he went to the US or to which state.but I gathered from the Heir Hunter it was a female cousin who died.
I am just now interested in any relatives there might be in America.
James and Thomas they were born in Kildare in Ireland I got their births on the Pilot site.
Thanks for any help anyone can shed on this for me...

James Smyth b. 1880 in Kildare Ireland.
Thomas Smyth b. 1882 in Kildare Ireland.
Father James Smyth b. 1835.
Mother Cathrine Casey b. 1833.

Thanks for any help I can get on this one...

Hi Jimmy, Thanks for getting back to me, Thomas seems to be missing from the 1911 senses, sorry I don't know what year he went to the States, but he was 19 years old on the 1901 senses, but I cannot find him on the 1911.there is a Thomas Smyth on the 1911 living with his brother, but the brothers age is wrong.
I would love to know where he went in the U.S.A.
Thanks for any help you can find.

What was the name of the person who died Margaret and when?
May be working back from them might be easier?
Also your grandma did she come to England and do you have an occupation for her father?

Hi Jo, The Heir Hunters would not tell me her name or the State she died in just that she was a female and left a substantial amount of money, and the State she lived in would not let the money go any further than first cousins, so I am assuming she had no children, they must have phoned me about 2006 or 7, and as we know they won't tell you anything unless and until they have a claim.
My grandma may have visited England, but I am not aware of that, her father was a blacksmith as were her two brothers.
Thanks Jo for any help..

Something to go on if they were Blacksmiths then?
I dont know what states allow, someone else may narrow it down though.
Jimmy may be at church at the moment and have some ideas tomorrow!

Well if we give him a shovel do think he could dig up the Smyths for me, with a prayer or two as well.

Sleep well Jimmy! :P

I was contacted a few years ago by a Chaytor relative. A company looking into a Chaytor family who had passed away and they had the tree wrong! They missed my Grandfather and his family.
In the end there was nothing because an illegitimate child had been found, although the lady had a man who had taken her in and cared for her, I hope he was given something of the inheritance!
