ARC TBC - Rabl - Rable brick wall

Post by benne42 »

Hi All,

I am a novice at the Genealogy thing and was wondering if anyone could suggest any other avenues of research for my "˜brick wall"™ below (this has the potential to be a "˜breeze block wall"™ due to my novice status) but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for the birth record for my Grandfather and marriage certificate for my GGF/GGM. I have found the family on the 1911 census in Lambeth, London and my GF is aged 2 (birth 1909 believe Feb).

The census shows that my GGF was born in Austria and my GGM in Dublin and they indicated on the census that they had been married for 4 years. I hoping the marriage certificate will provide some more information regarding the Austria/Dublin birth link as my current searches on Ancestry, FMP and Irish census has drawn a blank.

I have found a record for my GF"™s sister (Mary Jospehine Rabl) in 1910, so they were aware of the need to register.

For the record, my

GGF is John Rabl (B 1884 Austria)
GGM is Dora Rabl (B 1889 Dublin) "“ full name is Dorothea M Rabl (formerly Morris)
GF is John Joseph Rabl (later John Joseph Patrick Rable "“ marriage cert)
In addition to my GF, they had 4 other children (Mary, Dorothy, Kathleen and Rose)

Census is for York Road, Lambeth and the birth dates have been obtained from the ages in the document.

Around 1914, the family anglicised the surname to Rable

I have found Dora on a Electorial roll in 1934 however, I have found no trace of my GGF other than the 1911 census

Thanks and regards,

John

Was there a Veronica too?
The 1934 electoral register has Dora, as you say, and Kathleen and Veronica.

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help,

I accessed the Ancestry site in the library across the road from work to look at the Passenger lists. I can find 4 records, in the 1936/37 journeys, her age is correct however, and interesting thing to note from the 1937 trip is she lists her 'Race' as Hebrew as opposed to English on the earlier trip. In the 1938/39 journeys, she is 3-years younger and the 'Race' is Hebrew.

Is this possibly an Austrian/Jewish connection?

Other than the obvious, (not being registered or being born abroad) is there any other possibility as to why we can not find a record for John Joseph Rabl being born in 1909?

Once again, thanks for all your help

Cheers
