Alice Baker (b.1887) & post-1911 searches - COMPLETED
Hi guys,
What's the usual practice for tracing relatives after the 1911 census?
I have an Alice BAKER (b.1887) who was the sister of my gg-grandfather John Albert BAKER (1877-1947). John, Alice and their siblings were children of Joseph and Eliza BAKER. I've been able to trace her on the 1901 census but then I've lost her. Can't find a suitable marriage either. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
1887 abt Birth Handsworth, Staffordshire, England
1901 Age: 14 Residence Northfield, Worcestershire, England
Regards,
Darren

Hi Linell, thanks for the info. I think she was just Alice, but the marriage possibilities you highlighted certainly give me a good starting point. Being a Wiltshire boy my midlands geography isnt very good and I can never tell if a marriage sounds reasonable on the BMDs. Still, a bit of trial and error won't hurt.
Unfortunately my family aren't very good at remembering our family history! I recently had to pay a fortune to research and get hold of my great-grandfather's army records as my granddad (bless him) couldnt even remember the regiment his father was in! Genealogy can be hard work sometimes!
Also, thanks for the tips... it never even crossed my mind to search school records or wills but that would certainly be an interesting area of research. Us Baker's were never wealthy folk but it would make an interesting read if any of them made wills. Darren

Hi Darren if you could spend a day at the brand new Birmingham History Centre, sure you would find plenty of information on your Baker family. Linell.

Hi, so King's Norton is the area I need to search for a suitable marriage? The only one I can find between 1900-1910 was the one you found above.

Here is a link to the Kings Norton Registration District, you need to find Alice on the Census and see if she is living in the Kings Norton Reg District:-

I wouldnt go rushing in spending your money.
Im not sure how good the local registras office is, some one else may say, but it may be worth checking fathers name with them before you buy.
It was just a thought from myself.
