There is a Parish Settlement Certificate for St Mary Oldswinford for Thomas Hughes 1718 (87) from Ellesmere Salop with wife and child to Old Swinford. Could this be your line :?:

can't relate to Thomas Hughes 1718 but any thing is possible.there is a possibility of strong connections
in Shropshire into Staffordshire.the names I am looking into are-

Thomas Hugh c1620 oswestry-Elizabeth Kynaston c1620 oswestry
Thomas Hughes c1647 chirbury salop-Joanna Morgan c1649 chirbury with brompton salop
Thomas Hughes c1677 wombourne south staffs-Sarah Gibbons c1680 sedgley whittington
Joseph Hughes c1704 wombourne-Sarah Oakley c1695 sedgley
Thomas Hughes c1726/30 sedgley-Elizabeth Williams c1730 cleobury mortimer and connections with st giles whittington, staffs.

the above are my reasons for trying to establish the details of Thomas Hughes c1761 and Ann pearson c1761.
have come across spellings for Hughes as Hews,Hues and Hugh.

just had to pick up grandson from school, not well so will post more soon.

Ok so we have this name Lester as middle name on Mary and Wm still doesn't mean Hannah Maria was Lester

I do not know how reliable the information is, but have you looked at this web page by P Barnett.
A little difficult to understand but if you work your way down the page you will get to Alexander Hughes, Mr Barnett claims to have traced the Hughes family back to a "Thomas HUGHES b c1647 bap 12 Mar 1647 Chirbury Salop" that is in Shropshire, near the Welsh boarder. I think some evidence would be usefull but it may be a starting point.

Also the website Midlands pubs for a little background information. http://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/worcester ... s-arms.htm The Brickmakers Arms, Alexander and Hannah, Alexanders son John Hughes would later run the nearby Trust to Providence.

There as also been some discusion on Rootschat.com. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.ph ... 69.10.html

By the way the parish reg. for Chirbury Salop can be found here; http://www.melocki.org.uk/salop/Chirbury.html#PAR and a copy of an old transcript here; http://ia600408.us.archive.org/8/items/ ... 08shro.pdf

hi,
yes I have seen P Barnett's presentation of his family tree and also been in touch with some distant cousins, one on the phone which prompted me to include THOMAS hUGHES (HUGH) C1620 Oswestry
as a possibility.
have got a copy of the Midlads pub info.
still think the key is to confirm the parents of Alexander Hughes 1785 as Thomas Hughes c1761 anf Ann Pearson c1761.

the info on parish reg is interesting and I will look at this, its been quite a journey this week

thanks LL

hi hughtin,
there are that many line to follow with the number of children produced in each generation.
the, main ones I have come across, apart from those already included on BCC tree are-

descendants of Thomas Hughes c1813 and Sarah Peake c1816 through a living distant cousin ?
ditto of Isaac Hughesc 1849 and Eleanor Hughes C 1852 through a living distant cousin ?
ditto of William Lester Hughes c 1825 and Mary Knowles c1827 but have not checked these.
