"completed" Major Hale born abt 1802 Sedgley

Post by expat66 »

Following a marriage lookup from Antie Em .... Thankyou :P

I have been adding in this Hale family ..

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =722340225

I found this family in 1851 ...

1851. Deepfields? Sedgley
Major Hale,49,head,married,labourer
Ann,41,wife
James,19,son,labourer
Sergent,16,son,labourer
Betsy,14,daughter
Henry,11,son,labourer
Sarah,8,daughter
Mary Ann,4,daughter
Henry Richmond,13,son-in-law?,miner
All born Sedgley

added to BCC here ..
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =546568440

There is a marriage for a Major Hale in 1842

West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1842
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
HALE Major RICHMOND Hannah Sedgley, All Saints Dudley Register Office 216/002/360

I will post this marriage for lookup.

Is Hannah Richmond the wife in 1851? ... I know that Anns and Hannahs are sometimes 'one and the same'

Now I am in a bit of a muddle over who the kids belong to on that 1851 census.
I guess Henry Richmond should really be stepson?
Sarah and Mary Ann are maybe daughters of Major and Hannah?
.... and the older children from a previous marriage for Major?

Just need a a bit of help sorting this one out .... a bit out of practice!
Thankyou

It was quite common in the Black Country to call sons Major, Captain and Sergeant. I'm sure there was another thread on this somewhere.
