From Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyatt_Earp#Early_life
On July 30, 1840, widower Nicholas Porter Earp wed Virginia Ann Cooksey in Hartford, Kentucky. Wyatt Earp was born in Monmouth, Illinois, on March 19, 1848. Wyatt Earp had an elder half-brother, as well as a half-sister, who died at the age of ten months. Nicholas Earp named Wyatt after his commanding officer during the Mexican-American War, Captain Wyatt Berry Stapp of the Illinois Mounted Volunteers. In March 1849 [1], the Earps left Monmouth for California but settled in Iowa. Their new farm consisted of one-hundred and sixty acres, seven miles (11 km) northeast of Pella, Iowa.

1870, He is living next door/farm but one from is parents Nicholas, and Virginia. The census says Nicholas was born in North Carolina.

There is a lot about is family in the Individual Record, on FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File.
It goes back to a Joshua Earp, born about 1706, in Maryland.

Submission Search no: 515614-1015100093320.

Lots of reading
http://www.genealogy.com/famousfolks/Earp/
The Earp Family Roots
The gateway ancestor of the renowned Earp family is said to be a Scotch-Irishman named Thomas Earp Jr., who was born 1656 in Ireland and came to America before 1680. According to Jean Whitten Edwards, compiler of the Earp Family Genealogy,20 Thomas Earp Jr. probably came to this country - like many of our ancestors - as an indentured servant.

Earp is not an Irish surname. A British surname expert lists only one reference for it - spelled Erpe in 1561 - and claims its origins are unknown. However, American sources note that references to Earp can be found under the spelling of Harp. Being aware of the British's propensity to drop their "H's," genealogists must consider this possibility when researching a surname beginning with a vowel. Wyatt Earp's great-great-grandfather appears on a 1776 Maryland enumeration as William Harp.21

Soz I am just reading Linells arcticle now.....

brilliant ...so we can start with this one can we...and add him to the tree?

Young Richard Earp was one who fell for Doc Gantry's spiel and subsequently made that hazardous Atlantic crossing. On the voyage out there he met up with a Joseph Webb and family, they settled in Monmouth Illinois, where Richard Earp Married Joseph Wyatt's daughter, founding the Earps American dynasty.
Richard Earp a saddler of Walsall

I am only up to there...so does someone fancy starting this on Connections and we can delve and add as we go?

Can we find out who Nicholas or Virginia's parents were?

hmmm not sure how this Richard Earp fits in cos according to other sources this is the info
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ ... arp/b1.htm

So Walter Earp is the father of Nicholas Porter and Nicholas is the father of Wyatt

so how does this Richard Earp from Walsall fit in?
I thought he was the Grandfather....we need to get this rite if it goes on the tree
