Whinging Poms....

Post by MarkCDodd »

I try hard to tell people that the majority of English do not whine and whinge.

But then you get articles like this.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2228671/Melbourne-Cup-2012-Aussies-big-day-races.html

Then you read the comments made by the readers and I am sorry to say, they are a pack of whining, whinging and idiotic Poms!

There were 106,000 people at the race yesterday.

There were only 4 arrests for drunkenness.

There was no violence.

Just people having fun.

Compare that to Ascot last year...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2004421/Royal-Ascot-2011-Brawl-breaks-Ladies-Day-chair-legs-flying.html

And that was Ladies Day?

'Nuff said.

Always thought that England has been invaded several times over the last 2000 years so unless you get a DNA test, you can't claim to be an original inhabitant.

Are you really saying that the comments made by the readers of that paper are OK?

Ignore the article as that was just a bit of trolling by the paper.

The comments from its readers border on ignorant racism and are offensive in the extreme.

Perhaps they should read about how many young Australian sacrificed themselves for the "Mother Country" in WW1 and WW2.

How well received Prince Charles and Duchess Carmilla have been over the last few days.

Perhaps it is okay to get drunk and naked when you are a young royal?

Did the British in your family write into the comments section and make those remarks?

I stand by my comment. The people who did write int to that paper and made those comments are an embarrassment to us British who know the history of both countries.

You make a comment about Aborigines being the original inhabitants. How is that relevant?

If that is a relevant issue then no British citizen can claim to be an original inhabitant unless they have had a DNA test to show they are not descended from the Danish, German, Roman or Norwegian conquerors.

The remarks made by the readers of that paper contain the usual rubbish about Aussies being descended from convicts. Only 4% of the current Australian population can show decent from British born ancestors.

Of those who do have convict ancestors, like my wife who is 8th generation and descended from 7 convicts including 1st Fleeters, they have a sense of pride, not shame, in what the convicts achieved.

The "criminals" sent to Australia were almost 95% convicted of minor crimes that would not even involve jail time today.

When the readers harp on about how much Australia owes England they show a total ignorance of how the reverse applies.

Apart from sending a few crooks over on boats, the UK has done zero for Australia.

On the other hand, from the early days of the settlement, the trade balance has always been Australia exporting far more to the U.K than vice verci.

In WW1 the Australia and New Zealand sent a purely voluntary force to defend the U.K.

They made up less than 10% of the front line in Europe yet took almost 30% of the conquered land and 25% of the prisoners.

Tens of thousands died in a war they could have easily ignored.

Same in WW2 where Australia was quick to send their young men to defend the U.K.

All of this is ignored by the Aussie bashers who used a beatup story about 106,000 Aussies enjoying themselves to show complete ignorance and openly attack a people and nation they know little or nothing about.

The response of normal Australians has been one of shock at the pure hatred shown by these people.

Australia and England have always had friendly rivalry. The type of comments that were printed and allowed to remain mostly unchecked are a disgrace.

Well I don't think like those in the newspaper. I have a cousin that lives in Australia, and i have at least four ancestors who were sent out as" criminals" ,and as far as i can tell all did well for themselves.Mary Bagley married to my 4th Great Grand Uncle, She did really well ,and loved racing.Last week I went to my nephews wedding ,and his wife is Australian. They are moving to Australia. I don't blame them . The weathers fabulous, and the life style seems so much more relaxed. :-)

It was just the utter volume of hatred that upset me.

Prince Charles was at the racing and I don't think he was upset by anything he saw.

4 arrests out of 106,000 people!!!

I bet the Football Association in the UK would love to get those figures.

Our most popular newspapers are mostly serious news with the occasional beat up.

Our "Current Affair" programs on TV have declined horribly over the last ten years and do the "sensationalist" job the more trashy of your newspapers do.

A couple of days ago the most popular one spent 1/4 hour embarrassing a restaurant owner who was not aware that Guide Dogs are allowed in his premises.

Meanwhile America has been hit by a huge storm and the American election is a day or two away!
